Mophie, the maker of the popular line of smartphone “juice pack” battery cases, will soon release a new rugged and waterproof iPhone 6 battery case — the juice pack H2PRO.

Obviously, for adventurers everywhere, this is damn fine news.

The H2PRO essentially doubles your iPhone 6 battery life by packing enough juice for one extra full charge. The H2PRO’s 2,750mAh battery will add an additional 14 hours of talk time, 10 hours of web browsing, or 11 hours of video playback. If you’re stuck in a tent during a rainstorm, you’ll appreciate the extra charge . . . and if you’re lost in the rain using a map on your iPhone, you’ll also appreciate the extra charge — not to mention the waterproof protection.

The H2PRO Battery Case at Work

Battery cases typically work by letting you charge your iPhone first, while it’s in the case, before you charge up the case battery. Once you unplug, your iPhone 6 battery starts draining, and when you want to top it off or recharge it, you activate the battery case, which starts charging your iPhone battery. You can sync via WiFi, of course, or use the included cable to sync to your Mac or PC.

It’s pretty simple, really.

As for the waterproofing, it’s not nearly as rugged or robust as what you’ll get with a dedicated waterproof camera, but it will protect your iPhone 6 from inopportune drops and dunks: The H2PRO battery case meets MIL-STD810G and IP-68 ratings for drop protection up to 1.2 meters, and it is dustproof and waterproof down to 1.2 meters for up to 30 minutes.

The case is about as thick as a deck of playing cards and it approximately doubles the weight of your iPhone 6 — not bad for doubling the charge and giving you rugged protection, too.

Mophie is taking pre-orders from its web site now, priced at $129.99.

Look for a Man Makes Fire review shortly after I get my hands on the new H2PRO.

Disclosure: Reviews and Gear Links:

In addition to Man Makes Fire buying gear for reviews and guides, gear manufacturers occasionally ship review units to Man Makes Fire. If we like it, we spend some quality time with the gear and review it, noting if it was provided to Man Makes Fire. After the review, we return it, give it away, or work on longer-term review follow-ups when applicable to reader interest.

We do not accept any gear in exchange for coverage. If we do not truly appreciate the gear, we don't write about it at all -- bad gear will fade into obscurity on its own if everyone ignores it. In addition, we focus on gear from reputable companies, reputable brands, and reputable retailers we trust.

The gear links on Man Makes Fire are focused on what we are willing to recommend to our own family and friends. Many of our specific gear links connect to industry-standard affiliate advertising programs. When you buy something using the retail links in our guides and reviews, we may earn a small affiliate commission that helps pay for our work.

Basically, we deliver the advice and insight you need, you get the gear you want, and then everyone wins. Pretty straightforward.
