We were excited to see YETI enter the rugged, lightweight water bottle space with its new Yonder water bottles late last year. Just in time for the hottest part of summer, YETI has now expanded its Yonder line with two new sizes and a sweet new Tether Cap.

YETI has four Yonder bottles in all the key size capacities: 20 oz, 25 oz, 34 oz and 50 oz.

Better yet, YETI is offering an extraordinarily rare FREE customization program running from 7-13 to 7-19! If you’re on the fence with a YETI Yonder, this might be a good time to nab one. You can even upload your own design.

So what do you need to know about the YETI Yonder Water Bottle Collection?

Lightweight, Rugged and a Bit Spendy

This photo shows the new YETI Yonder Water Bottle size options next to each other.
YETI now offers four key Yonder Water Bottle size options in four colors — with some limited edition color options as well.

The Yonder water bottles are made from a BPA-free 50% recycled plastic. They’re nearly indestructible yet lightweight enough to take hiking, fishing, or backpacking.

Compared to the competition — most notably Nalgene water bottles — the Yonder bottles are more refined and have much better cap systems. The quality of the caps is what makes the biggest difference here — and we suspect the cost of the cap manufacturing is a big part of the premium price point.

The Yonder Cap features a two-part design: You get a widemouth base portion that makes it easy to add ice and clean the water bottle as well as a small spout, which YETI calls its Chug Spout. The spout — which we’re big fans of — lets you drink while on the go without sloshing water all over. The cap for the spout features a rugged handle that’s easy to carry and is ready for clipping to a backpack with a carabiner.

The New Tether Cap

The new Tether Cap gives you an always-on Chug Spout cap option.

YETI has added a new Tether Cap accessory. The Tether Cap goes under the Chug Spout and over the Yonder bottle and then caps the Chug Spout with a size-appropriate twist cap. If you’re not a fan of the large carry handle-style cap lid, the Tether Cap is a lighter, always attached alternative. It’s still tough enough to clip to your pack. All the Yonder water bottles and caps are dishwasher safe.

Overall, YETI’s Tether Cap is a great implementation, but it’s not the first solution: We’ve used the humangear CapCap+ for years on other water bottles and like it very much. You can certainly put together a CapCap+ with another water bottle and build your own hydration solution and save a bit of money.

YETI, however, brings convenience, superb quality, and a fantastic fit of all the components. And, because the Yonder collection falls into a splurge area due to its slightly higher price point, we expect the Yonder bottles to make good gifts for outdoor lovers.

Why You Can Trust Us to Make Unbiased Reviews and Recommendations

Man Makes Fire has been reviewing outdoor gear since 2011. We buy gear to evaluate and gear manufacturers occasionally ship review units to us to test because they trust the quality of our in-depth reviews. We carefully evaluate the gear in-person and review it only if it is very good, noting if it was provided to us. After the review, we return it, give it away, or use it for longer-term updates. We do not accept any gear in exchange for coverage. We only recommend gear we believe in, focusing on reputable companies, brands, and retailers we trust so that you have a good experience, too.
